Speaking about mixture: Cifarelli’s machines are equipped with a 2 strokes engine; every two strokes engines work with a mixture of gasoline and oil.
Which is the correct gasoline to use?
The gasoline is gasoline, you can think, but on the market there are different kinds of gasoline and not all are proper.
For example, to prepare the mixture you’re recommended NEVER USE gasoline containing alcohol.
Or a kind of gasoline with a low number of octanes can increase the temperature of the engine, with consequent risk of piston’s seizure and damages to the engine; maybe it is cheaper …
Furthermore there are on the market some types of gasoline with percentage of ethanol bigger than 10%, which can be harmful for the motor.
And the oil ?
The oil must report on the label the writing “2T”, that means oil for two strokes engine.
Mainly on the market exist two typologies of 2T oil : the synthetic oil and the mineral.
The synthetic oil must be mixed with unleaded gasoline with a rapport of 2% (50:1).
The mineral oil must be mixed with leaded gasoline with a rapport of 4% (25:1).
It is true that the synthetic oil is more expensive than the mineral oil, but as you can see, you can use the half; besides the synthetic oil lubricates better the engine with a less heating; with the smaller quantity used, it maintains cleaner the room of burst (you go less times to the service center to clean the piston and the cylinder).
Also remember to NEVER mix the unleaded gasoline with mineral oil: this gasoline contains additives which degrade quicky the mineral oil loosing its lubricating’s properties.
How to prepare the mixture? How can I know if I have put the correct quantity of oil? And if I have put too little? And if I have put too much ?
Each Cifarelli machine is equipped with a bottle that helps to prepare 1 Liter mixture.
To prepare the mixture with the correct percentage of oil becomes easy:
Pour the gasoline till the position 1.
To prepare a mixture 50:1 (2%), add oil till position 2.
or
To prepare a mixture 25:1 (4%), add oil till position 3.
Shake the mixture for at least 30 seconds before to fuel
Now the mixture is ready, the tank can be filled; it is a simple operation but a pair of aspects need to be careful:
when you unscrew the fuel cap of the tank, do it slowly in a way to reduce the risks of fire when the gas vapors escape.
Immediately wipe off any possible fuel leakages
Stay far from flames and sparks, keep turned off your mobile and obviously don’t smoke !
When you start the engine, keep yourselves to a distance of at least 3 meters from the place of fuelling.
Many people prepare the mixture in tanks; first of all, remember to use clean and suitable homologated tanks; besides I recommend to prepare the necessary mixture only for the working day.
And if some mixture remains after the work ? However I will use it in a couple of days…
In this case, please remember absolutely to shake well the mixture before using it: the oil is heavier than the gasoline and it is deposited on the bottom; in case of forgetfulness (and sooner or later it could happen) pure gasoline will be poured in the tank, with consequent seizure of the engine; I get repeat: prepare the necessary mixture only for the day.
However NEVER use the mixture prepared by more than a week; the oil easily loses its lubricating property with the imaginable consequences.
At last, here below there are two tables reporting the correct quantity of oil to be mixed according to the quantity of gasoline:
